John Chapter 9



The Gospel According to John

 

1) (kai) And (parago) as Jesus departed, (eido) he discovered (anthropos) a man (tuphlos) physically blind / mentally blind (ek) from (genete) his birth.



2) (kai) And (autos) his (mathetes) disciples (erotao) asked (autos) him (lego) saying:

(rhabbi) TEACHER, (tis) Who (hamartano) wandered from the path of uprightness and honour to go wrong and commit sin? (anthropos) this man (e) or (autos) his (goneus) parents, (hina) that (gennao) he was born (tuphlos) physically blind / mentally blind?



3) And Jesus (apokrinomai) answered:

(oute) Neither (houtos) this man (hamartano) wandered from the path of uprightness and honour to go wrong and commit sin, (oute) nor (autos) his (goneus) parents:

(alla) But (hina) so that (ergon) the works (theos) of God (phaneroo) would be made known (en) in (autos) him.



4) (dei) It is necessary, (eme) that I myself (ergazomai) perform (ergon) the works (pempo) of him that sent (me) me, (heos) until (esti) it is (hemera) day:

(nux) The night time when work ceases, the time of death, the time for the deeds of sin and shame, the time of moral stupidity and darkness, the time when the weary and also the drunken give themselves up to slumber, (erchomai) will come and be established, (hote) when (oudeis) no one (dunamai) is able, capable, strong and powerful enough (ergazomai) to labor and do work.



5) (hotan) As long as (o) I am (en) in (kosmos) the world, (eimi) I am (phos) the Light of (kosmos) of the world , the truth and its knowledge, together with the spiritual purity associated with it, that is exposed to the view of all, openly and publicly with the power of understanding moral and spiritual truth.



6) (tauta) With this thing (epo) spoken, (ptuo) he spit (chamai) on the ground (kai) and (poieo) formed (pelos) mud, wet clay which potters use, (ek) out of (ptusma) the spittle, the saliva ejected from his mouth;

(kai) And (epichrio) then he spread (pelos) the clay (epi) over (ophthalmos) the eyes (tuphlos) of the physically blind / mentally blind man..



7) (kai) And (epo) then Jesus said (autos) to him:

(hupago) Withdraw yourself and go (nipto) wash yourself (eis) in (kolumbethra) the pool (Siloam) of Siloam = Sent.

The Pool of Siloam, a fountain of water in Jerusalem, also called Shiloah in Isa. 8:6, the Tower of Siloam, may have been a tower near or over the Pool of Siloam, which fell down killing 18 men.

(hos) Which (hermeneuo) is to translate Siloam from a foreign language into the common spoken language of English is (apostello) SENT in a state of liberty to a place appointed.

(oun) With this being so, (aperchomai) he departed, (kai) and (nipto) washed himself, (kai) and (erchomai) came before the public (blepo) having the power to see.



8) (oun) Therefore (geiton) his neighbors, (kai) and (proteron) they of a former time (theoreo) that had seen (autos) him, (hoti) that (en) he was (tuphlos) physically blind / mentally blind, (lego) said:

(esti) Is (ou) not (houtos) this man (kathemai) he that sat down (kai) and (prosaiteo) begged and asked for alms?



9) (allos) Some (lego) said (hoti) that (houtos) this (esti) is he:

(de) And (allos) others said (hoti) that (esti) he is (homoios) similar (autos) to him:

(ekeinos) But he (lego) said (hoti) that (ego) I (eimi) am he.



10) (oun) With this being so, (lego) his neighbors said (autos) to him:

(pos) How and in what way (sou) were your (ophthalmos) eyes / eyes of your mind (anoigo) opened?



11) (ekeinos) He (apokrinomai) answered (kai) and (epo) said:

(anthropos) A man (lego) called by the name of Jesus (poieo) formed (pelos) clay, (kai) and (epichrio) spread it over to anoint (mou) my (ophthalmos) eyes (kai) and (epo) he said (moi) to me:

(hupago) Withdraw yourself and go (eis) to (kolumbethra) the pool of Siloam, (kai) and (nipto) wash myself:

(kai) And (aperchomai) I departed (kai) and (nipto) I washed myself, (anablepo) and I recovered my lost sight.



12) (oun) With this being so, (epo) they said (autos) to him:

(pou) Where about (esti) is (ekeinos) he?

(lego) And he said:

(ou) I do not (eido) know.



13) (ago) So they laid hold of him and brought him (pros) to the Pharisees, (autos) him (pote) that was formerly (tuphlos) physically blind / mentally blind.



14) (de) And (en) it was (sabbaton) the seventh day of the week which was a sacred festival day where the Israelites were required to abstain from all work (hote) when Jesus (poieo) formed (pelos) the clay, (kai) and (anoigo) opened (autos) his (ophthalmos) eyes.



15) (oun) With this being so, (palin) again, the Pharisees (kai) also (erotao) asked (autos) him:

(pos) How and in what way (anablepo) did you recover your lost sight?

(de) And (epo) he said (autos) to them:

(epitithemi) Jesus put (pelos) clay (epi) on (mou) my (ophthalmos) eyes (kai) and (nipto) I washed myself, (kai) and (blepo) now I have the power of seeing / to see with the mind's eye.



16) (oun) Therefore, (tis) some (ek) out of the Pharisee (lego) said:

(houtos) This (anthropos) man Jesus (esti) is (ou) not (para) from (theos) God, (hoti) because (ou) he does not (tereo) keep and observe (sabbaton) the seventh day of the week festival.

(allos) Others (lego) said:

(pos) How and in what way (anthropos) is a man (dunamai) able, capable, strong and powerful enough, (hamartolos) that is not free from sin, (poieo) to perform (toioutos) this kind of (semeion) miracle?

(kai) And (en) there was (schisma) a rent, a metaphor for a division and dissension (en) among (autos) them.



17) (lego) Then the Pharisees said (tuphlos) to the physically blind / mentally blind (palin) again:

(tis) What (su) do you (lego) say (peri) concerning (autos) him (hoti) that (anoigo) opened (sou) your (ophthalmos) eyes?

(de) And (epo) he said (hoti) that (esti) he is (prophetes) a prophet.



18) (oun) With this being so, the Jews (ou) did not (pisteuo) believe (peri) concerning (autos) him, (hoti) that (en) he had been (tuphlos) physically blind / mentally blind (kai) and (anablepo) recovered his lost sight, (heos) (hotou) until (phoneo) they sent for (goneus) the parents (autos) of him (anablepo) that recovered his lost sight.



19) (kai) And (erotao) they asked (autos) them (lego) saying:

(esti) Is (houtos) this (humon) your (huios) son, (hos) who (humeis) you (lego) said (hoti) that (gennao) was born (tuphlos) physically blind / mentally blind?

(pos) How and in what way (oun) then (arti) does he now at this time (blepo) see?



20) (autos) His (goneus) parents (apokrinomai) answered (autos) them (kai) and (epo) said:

(eido) We know (hoti) that (houtos) this (esti) is (hemon) our (huios) son, (kai) and (hoti) that (gennao) he was born (tuphlos) physically blind / mentally blind:



21) (de) But (pos) how and in what way (nun) he now at this time (blepo) recovered his lost sight, (eido) (ou) we do not know or understand:

(e) Or (tis) who (anoigo) opened (autos) his (ophthalmos) eyes, (eido) (ou) we do not know:

(autos) He (echo) is (helikia) of an adult age;

(erotao) Ask (autos) him:

(autos) He (laleo) can speak (peri) concerning (hautou) himself.



22) (tauta) These things (epo) spoke (autos) his (goneus) parents, (hoti) because (phobeo) they feared the Jews:

(gar) For the Jews (suntithemai) made an arrangement together (ede) already, (hina) so that (ean) if (tis) any one (homologeo) declared openly or spoke out freely to confess (autos) that he (Christos) was Christ the anointed Messiah, (ginomai) he would be (aposunagogus) excluded from the sacred assemblies of the Israelites and excommunicated.



23) (dia) (touto) Because of this reason, (autos) his (goneus) parents said: (hoti) that (echo) he is (helikia) of an adult age; (erotao) ask (autos) him.



24) (oun) With this being so, (deuteros) for the second time (ek) from him, (phoneo) they spoke to (anthropos) the man (hos) who (en) was (tuphlos) physically blind / mentally blind, (kai) and (epo) said (autos) to him:

(didomi) Give (theos) God (doxa) the praise, honor and glory:

(hemeis) We (eido) know and understand (hoti) that (houtos) this (anthropos) man Jesus (esti) is (hamartolos) not free from sin.



25) (oun) Therefore (ekeinos) he (apokrinomai) responded (kai) and (epo) said:

(ei) Whether (esti) he is (hamartolos) not free from sin, (ou) I do not (eido) know:

(heis) One thing (eido) I know, (hoti) that (on) I was (tuphlos) physically blind / mentally blind, (arti) but now at this very moment (blepo) I see.



26) (de) And (epo) they said (autos) to him (palin) again:

(tis) What (poieo) did he perform (soi) on you?

(pos) How and in what way (anoigo) did he open (sou) your (ophthalmos) eyes?



27) (apokrinomai) He answered (autos) them:

(epo) I have told (humin) you (ede) already, (kai) and (ou) you did not (akouo) consider what I said, (tis) Why (thelo) do you wish (akouo) to hear it (palin) again?

(me) Not unless (thelo) you desire (kai) also (ginomai) to become (autos) his (mathetes)  disciples?



28) (oun) Therefore (loidoreo) (autos) they criticized him with a verbal attack (kai) and (epo) said:

(su) You (ei) are (ekeinos) his (mathetes) disciple; (de) but (humeis) we (esmen) are Moses’ (mathetes) disciples.



29) (hemeis) We (eido) know and understand (hoti) that (theos) God (laleo) spoke to Moses:

(de) But (touton) this man (ou) we do not (eido) know or understand (pothen) from where (esti) he is.



30) (anthropos) The man (apokrinomai) responded, (kai) and (epo) said (autos) to them:

(gar) For (en) with (touto) this one saying of yours (esti) is (thaumastos) causing me amazement joined with terror, which is extraordinary, striking and is surprising me,(hoti) that (humeis) you (ou) do not (eido) know or understand (pothen) from what author (esti) he is, (kai) and (anoigo) he opened (mou) my (ophthalmos) eyes.


31) (de) And (eido) I know and understand (hoti) that (theos) God (ou) does not (akouo) give ear (hamartolos) to those that are not free from sin:

(alla) But (ean) if (tis) any one (o) is (theosebes) worshipping God, (kai) and (poieo) performs (autos) his (thelema) commands, precepts, will, desires and pleasure, (toutou) him (akouo) he gives ear to.



32) (ek) Since (aion) the world began (ou) it was not (akouo) heard of (hoti) that (tis) any one (anoigo) opened (ophthalmos) the eyes (gennao) of any born (tuphlos) physically blind / mentally blind.



33) (ei me) But (houtos) if this man (en) was (ei me) not (para) from (theos) God, (dunamai) (ou) he would not be able, capable, strong and powerful enough (poieo) to perform (oudeis) anything.



34) (apokrinomai) Therefore they responded (kai) and (epo) said (autos) to him:

(su) You (holos) were completely (gennao) born (en) in (hamartia) sin to wander from the path of uprightness and honour to do and go wrong, (kai) and (su) you (didasko) conduct yourself as a teacher (hemas) to us?

(kai) And (ekballo) they cast (autos) him (exo) out of the doors.



35) Jesus (akouo) found out (hoti) that (ekballo) they had cast (autos) him (exo) out of the doors;

(kai) And (heurisko) when he found (autos) him, (epo) he said (autos) to him:

(su) Do you (pisteuo) believe (eis) on (huios) the Son (theos) of God?



36) (ekeinos) He (apokrinomai) answered (kai) and (apo) said:

(tis) Who (esti) is he (kurios) Lord, (hina) so that (pisteuo) I can believe (eis) on (autos) him?



37) (de) And Jesus (epo) said (autos) to him:

(horao) (autos) You have seen him with your eyes (kai) and (horao) see him with your mind, (kai) and (esti) it is (ekeinos) he (laleo) that speaks (meta) with (sou) you.

38) (de) And (phemi) he made known his thoughts:

(kurios) Lord, (pisteuo) I believe.

(kai) And (proskuneo) he worshipped (autos) him.



39) (kai) And Jesus (epo) said:

(eis) For (krima) judgment and condemnation of the wrong, for the decision which one passes on the faults of others, for the sentence of a judge, for the punishment with which one is sentenced and for a condemnatory sentence (ego) I (erchomai) am come before the public (eis) into (touton) this (kosmos) world, (hina) so that (blepo) (me) they which do not see with the minds eye, (blepo) will have the power of understanding;

(kai) And (blepo) they that use their physical eyes to discern mentally in order to discover and examine to understand, (ginomai) for them to become (tuphlos) mentally blind.



40) (kai) And (ek) some out of the Pharisees (ho) that (on) was (meta) with (autos) him (akouo) (tauta) considered what he said, (kai) and (apo) said (autos) to him:

(me) Then (esmen) are (hemeis) we (tuphlos) mentally blind (kai) also?



41) Jesus (epo) said (autos) to them:

(ei) If  (en) you were (tuphlos) blind of your own thoughts (an) opinions, wisdom and judgment of what things so ever, (echo) then you would have (ou) no (hamartia) error and sin to wander from the path of uprightness and honour to do or go wrong;

(de) But (nun) now at this very moment (lego) you say (hoti) that (blepo) you have the power of understanding;

(oun) Therefore, (humon) your (hamartia) error of sins (meno) remain to be present.



We do always give thanks to God for all things in the heaven above and the earth down below, for the day and for the night, for the light and for darkness, for sight and for blindness and for manifesting his word in the flesh in Lord Jesus Christ so that we may understand that which we do not see, which was, which is and which is soon to come the Almighty, so be it, let it be so, may it be fulfilled...in the name of the Father manifested in Lord Jesus, in the name of JESUS we pray always...Amen.
