The Gospel According to John
1) (kai) And (meta) after (tauta) these things, Jesus (peripateo) conducted himself (en) in Galilee :
(gar) For (thelo) (ou) he did not desire (peripateo) to conduct himself (en) in Judaea , (hoti) because the Jews (zeteo) were reasoning (apokteino) (autos) to kill him in any way whatsoever.
2) (de) And the Jews (heorte) festival and the feast (skenopegia) of tabernacles (en) was (eggus) near;
This festival was observed by the Jews yearly for seven days, beginning with the 15th of the month Tisri (approx. our Oct.) partly to perpetuate the memory of the time when their ancestors after leaving Egypt dwelt in tents on their way through the Arabian desert, and partly as a season of festivity and joy on the completion of the harvest and the vintage (the festival of ingatherings) In celebrating the festival, the Jews were accustomed to construct booths of the leafy branches of trees, either on the roofs or in the courts of their dwellings, or in the streets and squares, and to adorn them with flowers and fruits of all kinds, under which, throughout the period of the festival, they feasted and gave themselves up to rejoicing.
3) (oun) Therefore, (autos) his (adelphos) brethren (epo) said (pros) to (autos) him:
(metabaino) Remove yourself (enteuthen) from this place, (kai) and (hupago) depart (en) into Judaea (hina) so that (sou) your (mathetes) disciples (kai) also (theoreo) can be spectators and attentively view with their minds to consider (ergon) the works (hos) that (sou) you (poieo) perform.
4) (gar) For (oudeis) there is no one (poieo) that performs (tis) anything (en) (kruptos) hidden, concealed or in secret, (kai) and (autos) he (zeteo) that seeks and craves (einai) to be (en) with (parrhesia) the freedom of speaking, openly and without concealment, with free and fearless confidence, courage, boldness and assurance, (ei) if (poieo) you perform (tauta) these things, (phaneroo) (seautou) manifest and make yourself known by teaching (kosmos) the world.
5) (gar) For (oude) not even (autos) his (adelphos) brethren (pisteuo) had confidence, believed or trusted (eis) in (autos) him.
6) (oun) Therefore, Jesus (epo) said (autos) to them:
(emos) My (kairos) fixed and definite time (oupo) is not yet (pareimi) arrived:
(de) But (humeteros) your (kairos) opportune and seasonable time (esti) is (pantote) at all times and you should always (hetoimos) be prepared and be ready to receive one coming.
7) (kosmos) The world (ou) can not (dunamai) be able, capable, strong or powerful enough (miseo) (humas) to hate you, pursue you with hatred or detest you;
(de) But (eme) it is me (miseo) they hate, pursue with hatred and detest, (hoti) because (ego) I (martureo) testify and give a good report (peri) concerning (autos) it, (hoti) that (ergon) the works (autos) of it (esti) are (poneros) evil, wicked and bad;
Full of labors, annoyances and hardships that are pressed and harassed by labors, bringing toils, annoyances and a time full of perils to faith in God with steadfastness, causing pain and trouble.
8) (humeis) You (anabaino) go up (eis) for (taute) this (heorte) feast and festival:
(ego) I (oupo) do not yet (anabaino) go up (eis) for (taute) this (heorte) feast and festival:
(hoti) Because (emos) my (kairos) fixed and definite time (oupo) is not yet (pleroo) come to fulfillment.
9) (de) And (epo) when he said (tauta) these words (autos) to them, (meno) he was still present (en) in Galilee .
10) (de) But (hos) whenever (autos) his (adelphos) brethren (anabaino) went up to the festival, (tote) then at that time (autos) he (anabaino) went up (kai) also (eis) for (heorte) the festival, (ou) not (phaneros) manifestly, plainly, clearly or openly, (alla) but (hos) even as (en) (kruptos) he was hidden, concealed or in secret.
11) (oun) With this being so, the Jews (zeteo) enquired about (autos) him (heorte) at the feast and festival (kai) and (lego) said:
(pou) Where about (esti) is (ekeinos) he?
12) (kai) And (en) there was (polus) a lot of (goggusmos) murmuring and muttering of secret debates and secret displeasures that were not openly avowed (en) with (ochlos) the people (peri) concerning (autos) him:
(men) Truly (ego) some said (hoti) that (esti) he is (agathos) of a good constitution or nature, upright and honorable;
(de) But (allos) others (lego) said:
(ou) Not so, (alla) but (planao) (ochlos) he leads the common people away from the truth and deceives them into error.
13) (mentoi) But yet (oudeis) no one (laleo) spoke (parrhesia) openly or publicly (peri) concerning (autos) him, (dia) because of their (phobos) fear of the Jews.
14) (de) And (ede ) now, already (mesoo) midway through (heorte) the festival and feast, Jesus (anabaino) went up (eis) into (hieron) the temple (kai) and (didasko) taught.
15) (kai) And the Jews (thaumazo) marveled, (lego) saying:
(pos) How and in what way (houtos) does this man (eido) understand and have knowledge of (gramma) the sacred writings of the Scripture, (me) having never (manthano) been informed to learn?
16) Jesus (apokrinomai) responded (autos) to them, (kai) and (apo) said:
(emos) My (didache) teaching and doctrine (esti) is (ou) not (emos) mine, (alla) but (pempo) his that sent (me) me.
17) (ean) If (tis) any one (thelo) will (poieo) perform (autos) his (thelema) will and commands, (ginosko) he will come to know, understand and have knowledge (peri) about (didache) the teaching and doctrine, (poteron) which of the two (esti) it is, (ek) out of (theos) God (e) or (ego) if I (laleo) speak (apo) out of (emautou) myself.
18) (laleo) He that speaks (apo) out of (heautou) himself (zeteo) seeks and strives after (idios) his own (doxa) glory:
(de) But (zeteo) he that seeks and strives after (doxa) his glory (pempo) that sent (autos) him, (houtos) this one (esti) is (alethes) speaking the truth and loves the truth, (kai) and (ou) no (adikia) unrighteousness of the heart and life (esti) is (en) in (autos) him.
19) (ou) Did not Moses (didomi) give (humin) you (nomos) the Mosaic law, (kai) and (oudeis) no one (ek) out of (humon) you (poieo) keeps and performs (nomos) the Mosaic law?
(tis) Why (zeteo) strive after and seek (apokteino) to kill (me) me?
20) (ochlos) The people (apokrinomai) responded (kai) and (epo) said:
(echo) You possess (daimonion) an evil spirit and minister for the devil:
(tis) Who (zeteo) strives after and seeks (apokteino) to kill (se) you?
21) Jesus (apokrinomai) answered (kai) and (epo) said (autos) to them:
(poieo) I have performed (heis) one (ergon) work (kai) and (pas) you all (thaumazo) wonder and marvel.
22) Moses, (dia) (touto) because of this reason, (didomi) gave (humin) to you (peritome) the circumcision, for the extinction of passions and the removal of spiritual impurity;
(ou) Not (hoti) because (esti) it was (ek) out of Moses, (alla) but (ek) out of (pater) your forefathers;
(kai) And (peritemno) for you to circumcise (anthropos) a man (en) on (sabbaton) the Sabbath day (peritemno) in order for him to be separated from the unclean world and dedicated to God by extinguishing his lusts and removing his sins.
23) (ei) If (anthropos) a man (en) by (sabbaton) the Sabbath day (lambano) receive (peritome) the circumcision, for the extinction of passions and the removal of spiritual impurity, (hina me) that (nomos) the Mosaic Law (hina me) not be (luo) overthrown and done away with;
(cholao) Are you angry and enraged (emoi) at me (hoti) because (poieo) I have made (anthropos) a man (holos) completely (hugies) whole and restored him to health to teach that which does not deviate from the truth on the (sabbaton) the Sabbath day?
24) (me) Do not (krino) pass judgment (kata) according to (opsis) the outward appearance and look, (alla) but (krino) judge (dikaios) a righteous and guiltless (krisis) sentence of condemnation.
25) (oun) With these things being so, (tis) some (lego) said (ek) out of them from Jerusalem :
(esti) Is (ou) not (houtos) this man (hos) he who (zeteo) they seek after and strive (apokteino) to kill?
26) (kai) And (ide) behold and witness with your eyes, (laleo) he speaks (parrhesia) freely and with fearless confidence and boldness, (kai) and (lego) they say (oudeis) nothing (autos) to him.
Have the (archon) rulers (ginosko) become acquainted with him to know, (mepote) whether or not (alethos) of a truth, (hoti) that (houto) this man (esti) is (alethos) most certainly (Christos) Christ the anointed Messiah?
27) (alla) But (eido) we know and understand (touton) this man (pothen) from where (esti) he is from:
(de) And (hotan) as soon as (Christos) Christ the anointed Messiah (erchomai) makes his appearance to come before the public, (oudeis) no one (ginosko) knows or understands (pothen) from what author and giver (esti) he is.
28) (oun) Therefore, Jesus (krazo) spoke with a loud voice (en) in (hieron) the temple (didasko) as he taught, (kai) and (lego) said:
(kago) Even I, this selfsame I (eido) you know, (kai) and (eido) you know (pothen) from what author and giver (eimi) I am:
(kai) And (ou) I am not (erchomai) appeared before the public (apo) of (emautou) myself, (alla) but (pempo) he that sent me (esti) is (alethinos) real, true, genuine and sincere, (hos) who (humeis) you (ou) do not (eido) know or understand.
29) (de) But (ego) I (eido) know and understand (autos) him:
(hoti) Because (eimi) I am (para) out of (autos) him, (kakeinos) and he also (apostello) (me) sent me that I be in a state of liberty.
30) (oun) Therefore (zeteo) they enquired into (piazo) apprehending and capturing him in order to imprison (autos) him:
(kai) But (oudeis) no one (epiballo) laid (cheir) hands (epi) on (autos) him, to seize him and lead him off as a prisoner, (hoti) because (autos) his (hora) certain and definite time (oupo) had not yet (erchomai) arrived.
31) (de) And (polus) many (ek) out of (ochlos) the common people (pisteuo) put their confidence in and believed (eis) on (autos) him, (kai) and (lego) said (hoti) that (hotan) whenever (Christos) the anointed Christ (erchomai) appears before the public, (meti) will he perchance (poieo) perform (pleion) more (semeion) miracles and wonders (touton) than these (hos) that (houtos) this man (poieo) has performed?
32) The Pharisees (akouo) heard this that was announced in their presence, (ochlos) that the common people (gogguzo) murmured together (tauta) such things (peri) about (autos) him:
(kai) And the Pharisees (kai) and (archiereus) the high priests (apostello) sent (hupertes) officers and attendants of the Synagogue (hina) in order to (piazo) (autos) apprehend him.
33) (oun) With this being so, Jesus (epo) said (autos) to them:
(eti) Yet (mikros) for a short (chronos) amount of time (eimi) am I (meta) with (humon) you, (kai) and (hupago) then I go away (pros) to (pempo) him that sent (me) me.
34) (zeteo) You will seek after (me) me, (kai) and (ou) you will not (heurisko) find me:
(kai) And (hopou) where (ego) I (eimi) am, (humeis) you (ou) will not (dunamai) be able, capable, strong and powerful enough (erchomai) to follow me.
35) (oun) Therefore the Jews (epo) said (pros) among (heautou) themselves:
(pou) Where about (houtos) does he (mello) intend (poreuomai) to continue on his journey, (hoti) that (hemeis) we (ou) will not (heurisko) find (autos) him?
(me) Not unless (mello) he intends (poreuomai) to continue on his journey (eis) in order (diaspora) to scatter and disperse (Hellen) among the Greeks (kai) and (didasko) teach, impart instruction and instill doctrine into (Hellen) the Greeks.
Hellen (Greeks) is used either by nationality, whether a native of the main land or of the Greek islands or colonies or in a wider sense the name embraces all nations not Jewish that made the language, customs, and learning of the Greeks their own (like America ); the primary reference is to a difference of religion and worship.
36) (tis) What (logos) kind of saying (esti) is (houtos) this (hos) that (epo) he said:
(zeteo) You will seek after (me) me, (kai) and (ou) you will not (heurisko) find me:
(kai) And (hopou) where (ego) I (eimi) am, (humeis) you (ou) will not (dunamai) be able, capable, strong and powerful enough (erchomai) to follow me?
37) (de) But (en) in (eschatos) the last (hemera) day (megas) of the great day (heorte) of the festival, Jesus (histemi) stood in the presence of others (kai) and (krazo) cried out with a loud voice (lego) saying:
(ean) If (tis) any one (dipsao) suffer from thirst, of those who are said to thirst, painfully feel their want of, and eagerly long for those things by which the soul is refreshed, supported and strengthened, (erchomai) then follow (pros) with (me) me, (kai) and (pino) drink to receive into your soul what serves to refresh, strengthen and nourish it to life eternal.
38) (pisteuo) He that has confidence in and believes (eis) on (eme) me, (kathos) just as (graphe) the Scripture (epo) says;
(ek) Out of (autos) his (koilia) belly, the innermost part of a man, the soul and heart as the seat of thoughts, feelings and choices, (rheo) will flow (potamos) rivers (floods) (zao) of living (hudor) water.
39) (de) And (touto) this thing (epo) he spoke (peri) concerning (pneuma) the Spirit, (hos) who (pisteuo) they that put their confidence in and believe (eis) on (autos) him (mello) was about (lambano) to receive:
(gar) For (hagios) the Holy (pneuma) life giving spirit that is higher than man but lower than God, (en) was (oupo) not yet given;
(hoti) Because Jesus (oudepo) was not yet (doxazo) glorified, which is to cause the dignity and worth of him to become manifest and acknowledged.
40) (polus) Many (ek) out of (ochlos) the common people (oun) therefore, (akouo) when they heard and considered (logos) this saying, (lego) said:
(alethos) Of a truth (houtos) this (esti) is (prophetes) the Prophet.
41) (allos) Others (lego) said:
(houtos) This (esti) is (Christos) Christ the anointed Messiah.
(de) But (allos) others (lego) said:
(gar) For (Christos) Christ the anointed Messiah (erchomai) (me) will not make his appearance before the public (ek) out of Galilee .
42) (ouchi) Not at all, (graphe) the Scripture (epo) says (hoti) that (Christos) Christ the anointed Messiah (erchomai) will make his appearance before the public (ek) out of (sperma) the offspring of David, the second king of Israel, (kai) and (ek) out of (kome) the village of Bethlehem = house of bread , a village about six miles (10 km) south of Jerusalem, (hopou) where David (en) was.
43) (oun) With these things being so, (ginomai) there began to be (schisma) a rent, a metaphor for a division and dissension, (en) with (ochlos) the common people (dia) because (autos) of him.
44) (de) And (tis) some (ek) out of (autos) them (thelo) intended (piazo) to capture and apprehend him in order to imprison (autos) him:
(alla) But (oudeis) no one (epiballo) laid (cheir) hands (epi) on (autos) him, to seize him and lead him off as a prisoner.
45) (oun) Then (erchomai) came (huperetes) the officers and attendants of the Synagogue (pros) to (archiereus) the chief priests and Pharisees;
(kai) And (ekeinos) they (epo) said (autos) to them:
(diati) Why (ou) have you not (ago) brought (autos) him?
46) (huperetes) The officers and attendants of the Synagogue (apokrinomai) answered:
(oudepote) Never (anthropos) has a man (houto) in this manner, (laleo) spoken (hos) like (houtos) this (anthropos) man.
47) (oun) Therefore (autos) the Pharisees (apokrinomai) responded:
(humeis) Are you (kai) also (planao) led away from the truth and deceived?
48) (metis) Has any one (ek) out of (archon) the rulers (e) or the Pharisees (pisteuo) believed (eis) on (autos) him.
49) (alla) Nay, rather (houtos) this (ochlos) common people (ho) that (ou) does not (ginosko) know and understand (nomos) the Mosaic Law (eisi) are (epikataratos) accursed, of very low quality deserving to be detested, exposed to divine vengeance and are lying under God's curse.
50) Nicodemus (lego) said (pros) to them, (erchomai) he that came to Jesus (pros) at (nux) night (on) being (heis) one (ek) out of (autos) them,
51) (hemon) Does our (nomos) law (krino) pass judgment (me) on any (anthropos) man, (proteron) prior (ean me) and unless (akouo) it hear (para) from (autos) him, (kai) and (ginosko) has the knowledge of (tis) what (poieo) he performs?
52) (apokrinomai) They answered (kai) and (epo) said (autos) to him:
(me) Not unless (ei) (su) you are (kai) also (ek) out of Galilee . (ereunao) Search, examine into the Scripture (kai) and (ide) look with your eyes:
(hoti) Because (ek) out of Galilee (ou) no (prophetes) prophet (egeiro) is caused to be born.
53) (kai) And (hekastos) each and every one of them (poreuomai) departed (eis) to (autos) his own (oikos) house.
We do always give our thanks to God for all things in the heaven above and the earth down below, for all things the Lord has done and for all things that he will do, for being a faithful creator and manifesting his word in the flesh in Lord Jesus Christ, which was, which is and which is soon to come the Almighty, so be it. let it be so, may it be fulfilled. In the name of the Father he gave to his Son Lord Jesus...In the name of JESUS do I pray. Amen.
