John Chapter 5

The Gospel According to John

1) (meta) After (tauta) these things (en) there was (heorte) a sabbath day festival for the Jews.

(kai) And Jesus (anabaino) went up (eis) to Jerusalem.

2) (esti) Located in the eastern wall (probatikos) was the sheep gate entrance (en) into the city, (de) and (epi) near this gate (kolumbethra) was an artificial swimming pool (ho) that (epilegomai) was surnamed in Hebrew : Bethesda -- meaning house of mercy;

And the structure of this pool area (echo) contained (pente) five (stoa) entrances that were formed by rows of columns that supported a covered walkway.

3) (en) Under (tautais) these covered walkways (polus) was a large (plethos) amount of people (katakeimai) laying around on the ground in various positions;

Among them were (astheneo) the weak, needy, poor, sick,(tuphlos) blind, (cholos) lame, and some were (xeros) dehydrated;

(ekdechomai) All of them expecting and waiting for (kinesis) the disturbance (hudor) of the water in the pool.

4) All of them waiting (gar) for (aggelos) a messenger of God (katabaino) that is sent down (kata) from heaven, (kairos) for a limited period of time, (en) to go into (kolumbethra) the pool (kai) and (tarasso) disturb (hudor) the water:

(oun) Then who ever (protos) is first (meta) after (tarache) the disturbance (hudor) of the water, (embaino) to step into it, (ginomai) is made (hugies) whole and restored to health (hos) of (depote) whatsoever (nosema) disease or sickness (katecho) he has.

5) (de) And (tis) a certain (anthropos) man (en) was (ekei) there in that place, (echo) that had (en) in him (astheneia) a want of strength to understand a thing, to do things great and glorious, to restrain from corrupt desires and possessed a willingness to bear trials and troubles (triakonta) for thirty (okoto) and eight (etos) years.

6) And when Jesus (eido) discovered (touton) this man, (katakeimai) laying down with the sick, (kai) and (ginosko) knew (hoti) that (echo) he had (ede) already been in this state (polus) for a long (chronos) time now, (lego) he said to him:

(thelo) Do you have a purpose, are you determined and do you desire (ginomai) to be made (hugies) a man who is sound in body and whose teaching does not deviate from the truth?

7) (astheneo) This powerless man (apokrinomai) (autos) answered him saying:

(kurios) Lord (echo) I have (ou) no (anthropos) one (hotan) when (hudor) the water (tarasso) is disturbed, (hina) that (ballo) will put (moi) me (eis) into (kolumbethra) the pool:

(de) But (en) in (hos) who (ego) I (erchomai) came to follow, (allos) another (katabaino) is cast down to the lowest state of wretchedness and shame (pro) in the presence of (emou) me.

8) Then Jesus (epo) said (autos) to him:

(egeiro) Awake, arouse from your sleep of death and go before the public, Arise and be born, erect and construct a building.

(airo) Take it upon yourself and carry off (sou) your (krabbatos) pallet or camp bed, a rather simple bed holding only one person, (kai) and (peripateo) make due use of your opportunities to regulate your life and conduct your self to walk and make your way.

9) (kai) And (eutheos) immediately (anthropos) that man (ginomai) was made (hugies) a man who is sound in body, whole and was restored to health to teach that which does not deviate from the truth.

(kai) And (airo) he took it upon himself and carried off (autos) his (krabbatos) pallet or camp bed (kai) and (peripateo) made due use of his opportunities to regulate his life and conduct him self to walk and made his way:

(de) And (en) in (ekeinos) his (hemera) day (en) was (Sabbaton) the Sabbath day.

10) (oun) With this being so,  the Jews (lego) said (threapeuo) to him that was cured and restored to health:

(esti) It is (sabbaton) the seventh day of the week, which is a sacred festival and we Israelites are required to abstain from all work:

(exesti) (ou) It is not lawful (soi) for you (airo) to be raised up and carry off your (krabbatos) pallet or camp bed.

11) (apokrinomai) And he responded (autos) to them:

(poieo) He that made (moi) me (hugies) whole and restored me to health, (ekeinos) he it is that said (epo) to me:

(airo) Take it upon yourself and carry off (autos) your (krabbatos) pallet or camp bed (kai) and (peripateo) make due use of your opportunities to regulate your life and conduct yourself to walk and make your way.

12) (oun) With this being so, (erotao) they asked (autos) him:

(tis) What (anthropos) man (esti) is it (ho) that (epo) said (soi) to you:

(airo) Take it upon yourself and carry off (soi) your (krabbatos) pallet or camp bed (kai) and (peripateo) make due use of your opportunities to regulate your life and conduct your self to walk and make your way?

13) (de) And (iaomai) he that was cured, made whole and made free from error in order to bring about his salvation, (ou) did not (eido) know (tis) who (esti) it was:

(gar) For Jesus (ekneuo) slipped away secretly, (ochlos) for a casual collection of people (on) was (en) in (topos) that place.

14) (meta) After (tauta) this, Jesus (heurisko) found (autos) him (en) in (hieron) a sacred place, the temple, (kai) and (epo) said (autos) to him:

(ide) Behold and witness with your eyes, (ginomai) You are made (hugies) whole and restored to health to teach that which does not deviate from the truth.

(hamartano) Wander from the path of uprightness and honour to do or go wrong (meketi) no more hereafter, (hina me) or else (cheiron) a worse (tis) time (ginomai) will come (soi) upon you.

15) (anthropos) Then that man (aperchomai) departed, (kai) and (anaggello) made known to the Jews (hoti) that (esti) it was Jesus (ho) that (poieo) made (autos) him (hugies) whole and restored him to health.

16) (kai) And (dia) (touto) for this reason, the Jews (dioko) swiftly pursued after Jesus, in order to catch and persecute him, (kai) and (zeteo) desired within themselves (apokteino) to kill (autos) him;

(hoti) Because (poieo) he had done (tauta) this thing (en) on (sabbaton) the seventh day of the week, a sacred festival in which the Israelites were required to abstain from all work.

17) (de) But Jesus (apokrinomai) began to speak (autos) to them:

(mou) My (pater) Father (ergazomai) performs the work (heos) until (arti) now at this very moment, (kago) and in a like manner, even I, this selfsame I (ergazomai) performs the work.

18) (oun) Therefore, (dia) (touto) it was because of this reason, the Jews (zeteo) demanded and desired (mallon) more willingly and to a greater degree (apokteino) to kill (autos) him;

(hoti) Because he (ou) not (monon) only (luo) deprived them of their authority, (luo) but he also overthrew and did away with (sabbaton) the commandment of men to keep holy every seventh day of the week.

(alla) And (kai) even (lego) said (theos) that God (idios) was his (pater) Father, (poieo) making (heautou) himself (isos) equal (theos) to God.

19) (oun) With these things being so, Jesus (apokrinomai) began to speak (kai) and (epo) said (autos) to them:

(amen) Surely, truly and of a truth  (amen) with absolute trust and confidence (lego) I say (humin) to you:

(huios) The Son (ou) cannot (dunamai) do (oudeis) anything (apo) that originates out of (heautou) himself,
(ean me) Unless (tis) a certain one (blepo) looks at, weighs carefully and examines what (pater) the Father (poieo) performs:

(gar) For (hos) (an) what things so ever (ekeinos) he (poieo) performs, (tauta) these (kai) also (poieo) performs (huios) The Son, (homoios) equally in the same way.

20) (gar) For (pater) the Father (phileo) loves the Son, (kai) and (deiknuo) (autos) therefore exposes to his eyes and gives him evidence and proof by showing him through words and teaches him (pas) all things (hos) that (autos) he (poieo) performs:

(kai) And (deiknuo) will show (autos) him (meizon) greater (ergon) works (touton) than these, (hina) so that (humeis) you will (thaumazo) wonder and marvel.

21) (gar) For (hosper) just as (pater) the Father (egeiro) (nekros) awakens and arouses men out of their sleep of death (kai) and (zoopoieo) quickens their spirits with new and greater powers of life;

(kai) Even (huios) The Son (zoopoieo) quickens the spirit with new and greater powers of life (hos) of who (thelo) he loves.

22) (gar) For (oude) not even (pater) the Father (krino) passes judgment upon (oudeis) any one, (alla) but (didomi) has appointed (pas) all (krisis) damnatory judgment,  condemnation and punishment (huios) to the Son.

23) (hina) So that (pas) all human beings (timao) honor (huios) the Son, (kathos) just as (timao) they honor (pater) the Father;

(timao) (me) He that does not honor (huios) the Son (timao) (ou) does not honor (pater) the Father (ho) that (pempo) sent (autos) him.

24) (amen) Surely, truly and of a truth (amen) with absolute trust and confidence (lego) I say (humin) to you:

(hoti) That (akouo) he who considers what has been said and understands (mou) my (logos) sayings of God, instructions and teachings (kai) and (pisteuo) puts his confidence in and believes (pempo) on him that sent (me) me;

(echo) He possess (aionios) eternal (zoe) life, (kai) and (ou) he will not (erchomai) fall (eis) into (krisis) damnatory judgment, the sentence of condemnation or punishment;

(alla) But (metabaino) is removed (ek) from (thanatos) the power of death, and enters (eis) into (zoe) life, the absolute fullness of life that belongs to God.

A life real and genuine, a life active and vigorous and devoted to God.

25) (amen) Surely, truly and of a truth (amen) with absolute trust and confidence (lego) I say (humin) to you:

(hoti) That (hora) a certain fixed and definite time (erchomai) is coming (kai) and (nun) now at this present time (esti) is, (hote) when (nekros) the spiritually dead given up to their trespasses and sins (akouo) will give ear to a teacher and understand (phone) the words (huios) of the Son (theos) of God:

(kai) And (akouo) they that hear (zao) will live.

26) (gar) For (hosper) just as (pater) the Father (echo) has (zoe) life (en) in (heautou) himself;

(kai) Even (houto) in this manner, (didomi) he has given (huios) the Son (echo) to have (zoe) life (en) in (heautou) himself;

27) (kai) And (didomi) has given (autos) him (exousia) authority, power of choice and liberty (poieo) to carry out and execute (krisis) damnatory judgment, condemnation and punishment (kai) also, (hoti) because (esti) he is (huios) the Son (anthropos) of man.

28) (me) Do not (thaumazo) wonder at or marvel at (touto) this thing:

(hoti) Because (hora) the certain fixed and definite time (erchomai) is coming, (en) in (hos) which (pas) all (en) that are in (mnemeion) tomb houses, (akouo) will give ear to a teacher and understand (autos) his (phone) words.

29) (kai) And (ekporeuomai) they will come forth with feelings, affections, deeds and sayings and flow forth of a river to spread abroad a rumor;

(poieo) And for those that have done (agathos) good, useful, salutary, pleasant, agreeable, joyful,  upright and honourable things (eis) they will enter into (anastasis) the resurrection (zoe) of life from the dead, with life real and genuine, a life active and vigorous and devoted to God;

(de) And (prasso) they that have exercised, practiced to be busy with, carried on the management of public affairs, performed the transactions of public business in order to exact tribute, revenue and debts;

So that they themselves can act (phaulos) easy, slight, ordinary, mean, worthless and ethically bad and wicked, (eis) they will enter into (anastasis) the resurrection (krisis) of damnatory judgment, condemnation and punishment.

30) (ego) I (ou) am not (dunamai) capable, strong and powerful enough (apo) of (emautou) my own self (poieo) to do (oudeis) anything, (kathos) just as (akouo) I learn by hearing (krino) I pass judgment:

(kai) And (emos) my (krisis) sentence of condemnation (esti) is (dikaios) upright, righteous, virtuous, approved of and acceptable to God;

(hoti) Because (ou) I do not  (zeteo) seek after (emos) my own (thelema) wishes, commands, precepts, will, choice, desires or pleasure, (alla) but (thelema) the wishes, commands, precepts, will, choice, desires and pleasure (pater) of the Father (pempo) that has sent (moi) me.

31) (ean) If (ego) I (martureo) am a witness (peri) concerning (emautou) myself, (moi) my (marturia) testimony (esti) is (ou) not (alethes) truthful.

32) (esti) There is (allos) another (martureo) that does not keep back his testimony (peri) about (emou) me;

(kai) And (eido) I know (hoti) that (martureo) which he testifies, (hos) and what (martureo) he bears witness of (peri) concerning (moi) me (esti) is (alethes) truthful.

33) (humeis) You (apostello) ordered others to depart and to go (pros) with John, (kai) and (martureo) he was a witness (alethes) according to the truth.

34)  (de) But (ego) I (ou) do not (lambano) receive (marturia) testimony (para) from (anthropos) human beings:

(alla) Nevertheless (tauta) these things (lego) I say, (hina) so that (humeis) you (sozo) will be restored to health, saved, kept safe and sound and rescued from the danger of destruction.

35) (ekeinos) He (en) was (kaio) a burning light (kai) and (phaino) a shining light (luchnos) emitted from a lamp and candle that is placed on a stand and candlestick.

A lamp is likened as an eye, which shows the body which way to move and turn;

(de) And (humeis) you (thelo) took delight in him and had pleasure in him (pros) for (hora) a season (agalliao) to exult, rejoice exceedingly and be exceeding glad (en) in (autos) his (phos) brightness from a lamp and the Light of truth with its knowledge and spiritual purity associated with it, that was exposed to the view of all, openly and publicly.

36) (de) But (ego) I (echo) have (meizon) a greater, stronger and elder one (marturia) that testifies of me than John:

(gar) For (ergon) the works (hos) that (pater) the Father (didomi) has given (moi) to me (hina) so that  (teleioo) I carry them through completely, finish them and bring them to a close of fulfillment (autos) for him;

(autos) My (ergon) works (hos) which (ego) I (poieo) perform (martureo) bears witness (peri) about (moi) me, (hoti) that (pater) the Father (apostello) has sent (moi) me.

37) (kai) And (pater) the Father (autos) himself (pempo) which has sent (moi) me (martureo) bears witness (peri) about (moi) me.

(oute) You have neither (akouo) learned by hearing (autos) his (phone) words (popote) at any time, (oute) nor (horao) have you seen with your eyes or with your minds to know (eidos) his outward appearance, form, figure or shape.

38) (kai) And (ou) you do not (echo) have (autos) his (logos) sayings, instructions or teachings (meno) remaining (en) in (humin) you:

(hoti) Because (ekeinos) he (hos) who (apostello) has been sent (autos) by him, (humeis) you (ou) do not (pisteuo) put your confidence in him and believe.

39) (ereunao) Search into and examine (graphe) the Scripture, (hoti) because (en) in (autos) them (humeis) you (dokeo) are of the opinion (echo) that you have (aionios) eternal (zoe) life:

(kai) And (ekeinos) it (eisi) is the Scripture (martureo) that gives testimony (peri) about (moi) me.

40) (kai) And (thelo) (ou) you will not be determined (erchomai) to come (pros) to (moi) me, (hina) so that (echo) you will have (zoe) the absolute fullness of life that belongs to God and is devoted to God.

41) (ou) I do not (lambano) receive (doxa) good opinions concerning me that results in praise, honour and glory (para) from (anthropos) human beings.

42) (alla) But (ginosko) (humas) I have been acquainted with you and know, (hoti) that (ou) you do not (echo) have (agape) brotherly love, affection, good will, acts of kindness, love feasts or the love (theos) of God (en) in (heautou) yourselves.

43) (ego) I am (erchomai) come before the public (en) in (moi) my (pater) Fathers (onoma) name and authority (kai) and  (ou) you do not (lambano) (me) receive me as a companion:

(ean) If (allos) another (erchomai) makes his appearance and comes before the public (en) in (idios) his own (onoma) name and authority, (ekeinos) he (lambano) you will take in order to carry away and receive what is offered.

44) (pos) How and in what way (dunamai) (humeis) are you able (pisteuo) to believe, (lambano) which choose and receive (doxa) praise, honor and glory (para) from (allelon) one another mutually (kai) and (ou) you do not (zeteo) seek after (doxa) the praise, honor and glory (para) that comes from (theos) God (monos) only?

45) (me) Do not (dokeo) be of the opinion (hoti) that (ego) I (kategoreo) will accuse (humon) you (pros) to (pater) the Father:

(esti) There is (kategoreo) one that accuses (humon) you, even Moses, (eis) to (hos) who (humeis) you (elpizo) wait for salvation with joy and full confidence and hopefully trust in.

46) (gar) For (ei) if (pisteuo) you had believed Moses, (pisteuo) (an) you would have believed (emoi) me, (gar) for (ekeinos) he (grapho) wrote (peri) about (emou) me.

47) (de) But (ei) if (ou) you do not (pisteuo) believe (ekeinos) his (gramma) sacred writings, (pos) How and in what way (pisteuo) will you believe (emos) my (rhema) sayings?

We do always give thanks to God for all things in the heaven above and the earth down below. I am not worthy of the least of all of your mercy and the truth that you have showed to me, therefore I ask humbly for you to guide me in your truth and teach me and I will always walk in your ways. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and though all of my soul for sending Lord Jesus into this world, for manifesting your instruction and sayings in the flesh, and for being such a gracious God and faithful to your own word that came forth from you, which was, which is and which is soon to come the Almighty...so be it, let it be so, may it be fulfilled...in the name of the Father that Lord Jesus glorified, in the name JESUS do I pray...Amen.
